Transforming a Hino Truck with a Fleet Colour Repaint

Hello from Cartel Works. Here's a brief update on one of our recent projects for a local Nelson Tasman company, Asphalt and General . We had the opportunity to repaint a brand-new Hino truck, aligning it with the company’s fleet colors.

The truck came to us directly from the dealership. Our team meticulously disassembled it to prepare for painting. After carefully masking and cleaning the original surfaces, we applied the new fleet colors, ensuring the truck not only matches the rest of the Asphalt and General fleet but also reflects their professional image.

This type of fleet repaint is routine for us at Cartel Works, but it’s always satisfying to see the transformation. The painting is complete, and we are now in the process of reassembling the truck. We will perform a thorough quality check to ensure every detail is in order before it returns to duty.

At Cartel Works, we recently had the privilege of completing a full restoration of a 1960 Series 2 Land Rover. This iconic 4x4 holds a special place in automotive history, and our goal was to restore it to an exceptional standard, staying true to its original character while ensuring it was road-ready for modern adventures.

The Challenge of Accuracy

While many might view the Series 2 as a simple vehicle, it’s far more complex than it appears. Our client requested an extremely high level of accuracy, so we dedicated a significant amount of time to research. Ensuring that every component was finished in the correct materials and assembled as it would have been in the 1960s required attention to detail at every step.

One standout example of this precision was the use of aviation-style rivets. Some parts were assembled prior to painting, while others were riveted after the paintwork was completed. These kinds of decisions made all the difference in achieving a true-to-original restoration.

The Series 2 Land Rover may seem basic at first glance, but the process of restoring it was far from straightforward. With numerous intricate parts to refurbish and reinstall, it was a challenge that required expertise and patience.
